Our School Board and Community Support
Peachtree Hope, an Atlanta-based non-profit organization, was founded by a diverse group of African-American board members, led by long-time civil rights veterans, Lonnie King, Mamie Darlington and Charles Black. Their mission is to give low-income minority students in Georgia quality, educational choices they don't currently have in the traditional public school system. "We are absolutely thrilled to have the chance to provide Georgia's children a world-class education in partnership with SABIS," said Lonnie King, chairman of the Peachtree Hope Board of Directors. "If we succeed in DeKalb County, we plan to open similar schools throughout the state," said Mr. King. Peachtree Hope garnered significant community support for its mission through outreach to parents, a partnership with the Bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Churches ("AME") and the support of the NAACP of Georgia.
